The light and colorful Kimono has made a comeback. Shira Breuer on spring’s hot item.

This is fashion. What seems to be a drizzle in a particular season, like Gwen Stefani wearing a super chic Kimono in summer 2014 may become pouring rain in the next. You don’t have to be a fashionista in order to wear Kimono this spring. The Kimono is main stream displayed on catwalks, stores and streets. Just surrender to magic, to the spectacular prints, intensive colors, silky fabrics and comfy cuts. Oh yes, the cut is genial. A big tee-shaped cover-up. The Kimono is deeply rooted in the Chinese culture and was adopted later by Japan where it became an admired traditional garment. Worn on special occasions and ceremonies, Kimonos are expensive and regarded as great work of art. The Kimono is indeed associated with the Geisha but hey, aren’t we in spring 2015? The trendy Kimono is the free version of the real thing. It’s a hit that replaces a light jacket, perfect for a spring evening to wear over a tank and pants matched with high-heel sandals. Likewise, it’s an impressive item with a touch of the 70’s boho-chic drawing on exotic clothing items from remote cultures. Many elements from the Far East became then popular and adopted by the Hippies because of the free spirit they represented. “I have always been enchanted by the Kimono’s oriental mysterious and rich feel”, says Dalia Kapoza, Co.Co’s designer who created three versions for the summer collection in black, white and blue. “We attempt to offer a fun and sexy item easy to wear as a jacket or top. Stylist Dana Kariv was the one to suggest the Kimono. I love to see a customer dressed casually in a Kimono over a tank and blue or white jeans or over relaxed-fit pants and shirt”.
